JIM MEEHAN: HIS PERSONAL FAVORITES

As anybody who has been to art school
knows, illustration is the bastard child of the
art world. I think that's ironic because I think
to be a great illustrator is to be able to take
something which is not your own and
somehow make it your own, make it look
good, add to the piece, and do it on a deadline.
That's as difficult as it sounds; I don't think
I've ever quite done it myself.

CHRIS VAN ES: HIS PERSONAL FAVORITES

"I believe that it is important that an illustration is
specific to the article it accompanies. These days
it seems that convenience or the fear of causing
offense cause generic and bland images to be used
far too often. Illustration, at best, should complement
the wrtitten word by not just reflecting on it but
by commenting on it as well." - Chris Van Es
